I am not a baker

There is a recipe from Mark Bittman (NYT, cookbook author, gadfly) for a no-knead bread. Actually, it's not his recipe but rather that of Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery in NY. Bittman got all the credit.

I really hate Bittman. Maybe that's too harsh. I don't know the man but I think he's a phony. I received his book "How to Cook Everything" as a Christmas gift years ago. I cooked my way through it, discovering that every single recipe was flawed. Nothing worked. I threw the damn book away.

Back to this bread. It's delicious and easy for any non-baker, like me. Super satisfying when it comes out of the oven all crusty and brown. It takes time - like 18-20 hours - to get to the finished product. Worth it.

Had a slice toasted this morning. This afternoon it will become croutons for our salad tonight.

Croutons: garlic and parmesan? Yum.

I thought it was only me with Bittman fails. However, the bread looks fab. Post the finished loaf picture, please.

Must get back to my herbed bean stew....with kielbasa.
